Other vision correction surgeries
Short-sightedness, youthful long-sightedness and astigmatism are some of the most common causes of visual blurring in our patients. In Singapore, 85% of the population is shortsighted. The dependence on corrective eyewear can be significantly reduced by a variety of proven surgical techniques like LASIK (which is the gold standard in the correction of shortsightedness and astigmatism). At Jerry Tan Eye Surgery, we always offer fully customised, corneal topography/ corneal wavefront-guided all laser LASIK for all eligible patients. This advanced technique remodels the cornea to an optimal shape or PerfectShape to reduce LASIK side effects such as night time halos and glare. For those with high spectacle powers or thin corneas not suitable for LASIK, ICL is available for optimal visual correction and minimal side effects. For patients who cannot have ICL implantation, the no touch all laser technique called TransPRK will be able to treat all other patients. TransPRK is the latest method to replace Epi-LASIK.
Although our eyes are relatively small parts of the body, a number of different conditions can affect them. Cataracts represent a clouding of the natural lens of the eye and are a very common cause of visual blurring. The current advancement in cataract operations now involves doctors performing small incision, minimally invasive ultrasound surgery, which promises a shortest recovery time after cataract surgery. We combine this with new intraocular lens implant technologies to provide clear high contrast vision. Read more...
In recent years, corneal transplant operations have been refined and current techniques enable the risk of rejection to a minimum while enhancing recovery through the use of fewer stitches and partial thickness transplants. Such operations can only be performed by specialists accredited and gazetted by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. We perform traditional full thickness corneal transplants and newer partial thickness corneal transplants like DALK and PALK. PALK is the advanced technique of using the Amaris 1050RS Excimer laser to perform a partial thickness transplant. It reduces the lamellar transplant surgery time by at least an hour. We have been performing collagen cross-linking for keratoconus and corneal ectasia since 2008. Our clinic has the facilities and expertise to achieve excellent outcomes in the treatment of all corneal diseases. Read more...
